Dr. Mary Alphonce Kishe is and aquatic ecologist with interests in fisheries ecology and biology, biodiversity conservation and fisheries resources management. She holds a BSc (General, Hons) and MSc (Environmental Sciences) degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and a Ph.D. in Fisheries ecology from Leiden University, The Netherlands.
For more than 25 years she has worked with the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries as a Research Scientist. Her professional contributions include participating and disseminating research projects both at national, regional and international levels in which 85% of her contribution is from freshwater ecosystems, especially from Lake Victoria and its Basin.
She has disseminated her research findings through different platforms and dialogues including journal papers, book chapters, technical reports, national and international conferences and symposiums, media, and stakeholder meetings. She is published widely in international peer-reviewed journals and publishers with over 45 scientific papers and book chapters. She has been a reviewer for theses, dissertations, and scientific journal papers. She is a principal research scientist, she has been at the managerial level as the Centre Director of TAFIRI-Mwanza Research Centre and currently she is serving the Institute as the Director of Research Development and Coordination.
