ACARE facilitates a variety of meetings to ensure the network of scientific experts effectively network, exchange information, and strengthen science.

Annual Meetings
Annual meetings consist of the members of each of the six advisory groups to ensure regional exchange of information and harmonization of approaches across lake basins. Annual meetings are open to the public and guest speakers and interested members of the global scientific community and the public are welcome. Registration and inquiries can be made on specific annual meeting pages.
ACARE Annual Meeting 2027
The 2027 Annual Meeting will be held in Senga Bay, Malawi, located on the shores of Lake Malawi/Niassa/Nyasa.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2026
The 2026 Annual Meeting was held in Kigali, Rwanda, one of our partner countries that harbors the eastern end of Lake Kivu.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2025
The 2025 Annual Meeting was held in Zambia, one of our partner countries that harbors the southern end of Lake Tanganyika.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2024
The 2024 Annual Meeting was held in the welcoming city of Kisumu, Kenya on the shores of Lake Victoria.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2023
The 2023 Annual Meeting was held in partnership with the Great Lakes of the World (GLOW) conference in Dar es Salaam. While not on an African Great Lake, the conference was surrounded by fish from the Indian Ocean.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2021
The 2021 Annual Meeting was held virtually over three days. The COVID-19 global pandemic preventing travel and gatherings, once again.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2020
The COVID-19 global pandemic changed in-person gatherings. ACARE held its first annual meeting as a one-day, on-line meeting to great success.

ACARE Annual Meeting 2019
The 2019 “annual meeting” was actually ACARE’s inaugural in-person workshop. The workshop developed what are now the six advisory groups.

African Great Lakes Conference
ACARE and its partners facilitate a triennial international conference of knowledge exchange and networking for researchers working on the African Great Lakes (and other large lakes globally) for the purpose of enhancing further research, collaborations, and trust.

Advisory Group Meetings
